Bahr, Jamie

Music

A multi-instrumentalist, educator, and activist, Ms. Jamie is very excited to be starting her first year as the new music teacher at AJA!

In addition to being the lead singer, upright bassist, and songwriter for the internationally acclaimed Rockabilly/Soul band, Danger*Cakes, and bassist for the Austin Americana outfit, Brand New Key, Ms. Jamie is the Executive Director of the local music and social justice nonprofit organization, Girls Rock Austin.

She was a longtime educator for Kids In a New Groove, providing music instruction and mentorship to children in foster care and started the independent music and comic book publisher, Sugar Skull Media in 2015, producing Danger*Cakes’ albums and the zany horror/adventure comic series, Halloween Man with her husband, writer, and film-critic, Drew Edwards.

She is originally from upstate New York and moved to Austin in 2009. When she’s not busy rocking out or empowering young people through music, Ms. Jamie enjoys whimsical adventures, baking decadent desserts, and playing with her two bunnies, Elvira and Billie Hopiday.

“I feel so inspired to be in the company of so many dedicated and enthusiastic educators at Austin Jewish Academy,” says Ms. Jamie “and I can’t wait to see the difference they make in so many children’s lives.”

Ms. Jamie attended the State University of New York at New Paltz, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine and Performing Arts with a concentration in Jazz Vocal Performance.
