Music

AJA’s educational philosophy for teaching music to children in kindergarten through 4th grade centers on the idea that music is not only a cognitive and creative pursuit but also a deeply embodied one. We believe that music education should encompass the physical, emotional, and intellectual dimensions of a child’s development. We aim to cultivate a deep and lasting connection between students and music, fostering a love for this art form that will enrich their lives and communities for years to come. Students will explore instruments, develop rhythmic awareness and body coordination, develop pitch awareness and singing skills, use music to tell stories and express emotion, understand basic music notation, develop listening skills and critical appreciation for music across genres and cultures, prepare for musical performances, explore music software, and more.

Theater

Students shine as they experience all aspects of theater production from set design to acting and singing under the supervision of an experienced director. Parent involvement brings the school community together to ensure a stellar show. Past productions have included well-known shows and original works including Fiddler on the Roof, Shrek, Lion King, Aladdin, Fame, and more. Our older students take the lead roles, and our younger students have an opportunity to share their singing and dancing skills.

Art

Austin Jewish Academy’s outstanding art program fosters creativity, self-expression and manual dexterity while incorporating math, science, language arts, Judaic and social studies. AJA’s art program is taught through process art, meeting each child at their level. Students look forward to their art classes held in our spacious studio where they work on a variety of skills from drawing and painting to collage and sculpture. Students discover the history of art and artists, gaining an appreciation for art. Art techniques and materials are demonstrated and discussed. Students are encouraged to add creativity and imagination. Success is gained by effort and participation. Each year students create art pieces that express their own stories, ideas and emotions.
