Karen Fleishman Hidalgo is extremely grateful and excited to return to the AJA community! She has been a bilingual educator for 23 years, ranging from many years as a 5th grade teacher, to teaching humanities, Spanish and STEM K-5. For the last two years, she has served as a K-5 STEM educator and coach at Harmony Science Academy in Cedar Park.

She is proud to have won the Innovation in Education Award in 2019 in her previous time at AJA and being the Teacher Honoree in 2020. She worked hard to help students in various service-learning projects around Austin and to help her students write and perform authentic work in her annual 5th Grade Poetry Slam. She has loved writing innovative PBL inspired curriculum over the years, working with teachers, inspiring students and being part of the rich Jewish community within the AJA.

She received her BA in Family Studies and Spanish from the University of Arizona in 1999 and her Bilingual Teaching Certification from the University of Texas in 2001. In her free time, she is a busy soccer mom to three amazing and competitive soccer daughters, loves to write poetry, dance, exercise and travel the world.
