A Spirited and Meaningful Kabbalat Shabbat

A Spirited and Meaningful Kabbalat Shabbat

Last Friday’s Kabbalat Shabbat was a truly special morning that beautifully blended joy, pride, and reflection.

In addition to our regular service, we were joined by several special guests from Congregation Beth Israel – Rabbi Leiken, Rabbi Levi, Cantorial Soloist Sarah Avner, and CDC Director, Jeni Pandolfi. We listened to a thoughtful story from Rabbi Leiken about the importance of slowing down and making space for Shabbat.

The morning then shifted into a schoolwide pep rally, celebrating our amazing student athletes. Ari the Lion made a surprise appearance, bringing excitement and school spirit to the room! We recognized our volleyball and football teams, who are currently ranked first and second in the district, and heard inspiring words from Volleyball Coach Dr. Robinson and Football Coach Bobby. Both spoke proudly of their players’ dedication, teamwork, and how they represent not only themselves, but also our school and the broader Jewish community every time they put on their jerseys.

Adding even more ruach (spirit) to the celebration, our 5th and 6th grade cheerleaders from Ms. Cera’s Cheerleading elective performed a fantastic routine that energized the entire crowd.

We concluded our KabShab in our traditional large communal circle, but this time, instead of ending with only Shalom Aleichem, we lifted our voices together in Hatikvah, Israel’s national anthem. In that powerful moment, as we reflected on the hope we feel for Israel and the release of the remaining hostages, the sense of unity, healing, and community was palpable.

Those 45 minutes captured everything we strive for — spirit, connection, pride, and hope — a truly unforgettable start to Shabbat.
